Located in Saint-Goazec, in the heart of Finist\u00e8re, the Tr\u00e9varez estate is an 85 hectare site including an exceptional castle dating from the 19th century and a remarkable park which have earned it the distinction \u201cHeritage of the 20th century\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Tr\u00e9varez estate: history<\/h2>\n

The Tr\u00e9varez estate with its vast lands and its manor has existed for many centuries. The greatest families of Breton nobility have succeeded one another there. In 1845, the estate was bought by the Kerj\u00e9gu family. Later, it was inherited by James de Kerj\u00e9gu, politician and president of the General Council of Finist\u00e8re who had the current Ch\u00e2teau de Tr\u00e9varez built there from 1893 to 1907, the last and most beautiful building of the Belle \u00c9poque.<\/p>\n

Torn between his local ambitions and his Parisian social life, this rich politician decided to build an eclectic-style castle and equip it with the latest technological advances: elevators, electricity, running water, central heating, etc. The castle was the very representation of luxury and modernity to host unforgettable parties.<\/p>\n

But, in 1944, following an Allied bombing, the castle was damaged and then left abandoned. It was subsequently bought and restored by the General Council of Finist\u00e8re which provided it with a magnificent park now labeled \u201cRemarkable Garden\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since 2006, the Tr\u00e9varez estate has been one of the 5 heritage estates of Finist\u00e8re, alongside Doualas Abbey, Kerjean Castle, Relec Abbey and Kernault Castle. They are managed by the public establishment \u201cChemins du patrimoine en Finist\u00e8re\u201d. Since 2009, the estate has been listed as a historic monument.<\/p>\n

The Tr\u00e9varez estate: What to see?<\/h2>\n

In the Aulne valley, find the Tr\u00e9varez estate which dates from the \u201cBelle \u00c9poque\u201d and its unmissable places!<\/p>\n

The Ch\u00e2teau de Tr\u00e9varez, the main monument of the estate, is in itself a timeless beauty with its majestic architecture which is inspired by the Victorian, neo-Gothic style and Breton decorations. This mix of styles gives the building the look of a fairytale castle. After the bombing of 1944, only the ground floor and part of the 1st floor can be visited. The building cannot be completely restored given the high cost of the necessary work. Luxury, calm and modernity, this is what defines the castle.<\/p>\n

The rest of the estate includes ornamental clearings, stone paths, a modern landscaped park, as well as varied gardens. During a walk, you can still see the remains of the garden factories such as the hunting pond, the 2 statues of the child dog handlers, the Lion fountain and the sundial of the regular garden.<\/p>\n

The estate also includes the Saint-Hubert chapel, a prehistoric cemetery, the gardener’s house, the stables, an artificial pond, a former hunting lodge and the remains of an experimental farm.<\/p>\n
